Rainbow Letters
It is very important for children to learn to write letters using correct starting points and directions. This helps the link between writing, orientation and sound of a letter become fixed in the memory, which in turn helps prevent b/d/p/q confusion. It also makes the transition to “joined” writing later much easier.
Children need a lot of practice so correct letter formation becomes automatic. Rainbow Letters gives an enjoyable way to do some of this.
For each rainbow letter, use 5 or 6 different coloured pencils, gel pens, etc. Trace around or between the grey lines on the letters in the directions shown. Always start at the dot. Where there are numbers, use one colour starting at number 1, then at number 2 etc. before changing colours.
Trace over the letters in the direction shown. Always start at the dot. Use a soft black lead pencil. Sometimes there is a picture for you to colour.
