Traffic Lights

Trafic Lights is a computer program which helps children hear and identify sounds within words. It does not use letters, but has three or four traffic lights to represent the sounds within words.

Traffic Lights is an interactive program with photos, videos and cartoons of many things that children will find fascinating. It helps to make them more aware of the sounds within words, i.e. it develops their phonemic awareness.
Traffic Lights is suitable for children aged 4 years to beginner readers and English as a Second Language students of any age (to expand vocabulary), but is particularly helpful for students who are experiencing difficulty learning to read, for those with a family history of reading difficulties, or for those who have difficulty pronouncing sounds or words or get the order of sounds within words confused.
